The Winner
If you live in Texas’ 11th Congressional District, Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) will represent you for a fourth term. Pfluger defeated Democrat Claire Reynolds, an Austin attorney, about 60% to 40%, according to Associated Press results reported by FOX West Texas.
Pfluger received 138,627 votes to Reynolds’ 94,353, a margin of about 19 points. The results stay unofficial until Texas certifies them.
The Race
Pfluger is a San Angelo Republican and former Air Force officer who ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Reynolds is a former journalist who worked for 12 years as an attorney for the State Bar of Texas. She won the Democratic primary on March 3 with about 57% of the vote over Pedro Ruiz, according to Ballotpedia’s race results, after campaigning on congressional term limits and a ban on members of Congress trading stocks.
Cook Political Report and Inside Elections rated the race Solid Republican, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball rated it Safe Republican. Pfluger had no opponent on the 2024 general election ballot.
The map Texas lawmakers passed in 2025 kept the district’s West Texas base, including Midland, Ector and Tom Green counties, and stretched it east into parts of Travis and Williamson counties in the Austin area, according to the Texas Legislative Council’s report on the enacted map. About 777,000 people live in the district, the median age is about 34 and the typical household earns about $71,000 a year.
About 24% of adults hold at least a bachelor’s degree. The unemployment rate is about 5.4%, and about 14% of residents live below the poverty line.
What’s Next
Pfluger’s fourth term begins Jan. 3, 2027, with Republicans in the House minority. Pfluger chairs the Republican Study Committee and is challenging Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) for whip, the No. 2 Republican post in the minority. In a letter to colleagues, he wrote that it is time to “regroup, recharge, and fully unify,” the Washington Examiner reported.
House Republicans are scheduled to choose their leaders in a secret-ballot vote on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
