AllCiv (“AllCiv,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a service operated by Legis1 Inc., helps people understand and engage with their representatives, races, bills, and the money in politics. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use allciv.com and our related services (the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide, information we collect automatically, and information from third parties.
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account we receive your name and email address from your chosen sign-in method (Google or Apple sign-in, or a passwordless email link). We do not collect or store passwords.
- Profile and civic preferences. Your address or ZIP (used to match you to your districts and representatives), the representatives, candidates, issues, and organizations you follow, and any content you create — such as your public “yard” and messages you send to representatives.
- Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We receive limited billing details (such as plan, status, and the last four digits of your card) but never your full card number.
- Communications. Information you provide when you contact support or respond to surveys.
1.2 Information we collect automatically
- Usage data. Pages and features you use, articles and dashboards you open (including counts we use to apply free-tier limits), and similar activity.
- Device and log data. IP address, browser type, device identifiers, and timestamps, collected through cookies and similar technologies. See our Cookie Policy.
1.3 Information from third parties
We receive basic profile data from your sign-in provider and billing status from our payment provider. We may also receive aggregated analytics from our service providers.
2. Public civic data
The Service displays information about elected officials, candidates, committees, nonprofit organizations, campaign finance, legislation, and other civic matters obtained from publicly available government records and other third-party sources, including, for example, the FEC, IRS, Congress, state legislatures, and the U.S. Census.
This Privacy Policy applies only to copies of information that AllCiv collects about users of the Service. It does not govern the public civic data made available through the Service or the collection, maintenance, or accuracy of such information by its original sources.
If you believe any public civic data displayed through the Service is inaccurate or incomplete, please contact us at [email protected]. Where appropriate, we will review the issue and update the information or work with the applicable source to address it.
3. How we use information
- Provide, personalize, and improve the Service — including matching you to your districts and representatives and tailoring the civic information you see.
- Operate accounts, process subscriptions and payments, and apply plan limits.
- Send service-related and, where you have not opted out, optional update emails.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- Understand usage through analytics so we can make the product better.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described here:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf — including authentication, payments (Stripe), donation processing (Every.org), hosting and infrastructure, email delivery, and analytics — under contracts that limit their use of the data to providing services to us.
- Advertising partners. The Service may display advertising. Where ads use cookies or similar technologies, this is described in our Cookie Policy.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure usage, and support advertising. You can control cookies through your browser and the choices described in our Cookie Policy.
6. Your choices and rights
- Access and update. You can view and edit your profile and civic preferences in your account settings.
- Deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us.
- Marketing. You can opt out of optional emails at any time via the unsubscribe link or your settings.
- Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK GDPR), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
7. Data retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, then delete or de-identify it. Following account deletion, personal information is retained for a reasonable time thereafter as necessary to legal or operational retention requirements. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
