Who's In the Race
Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO-7) faces Republican Timothy Bennett in the Nov. 3 general election for Colorado's 7th U.S. House District. Four other candidates are also on the ballot, Lawrence Clark (American Constitution Party), Susan Hall (Unity Party), Joe Krzeczkowski (unaffiliated) and Dan Sallis (Libertarian).
Pettersen has represented the district since 2023, after a decade in the Colorado legislature — first in the state House starting in 2012, then in the state Senate starting in 2018. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Bennett is a retired Army lieutenant colonel and Ranger who sits on a school board, and his campaign says he served nearly 30 years in the military. He also ran unopposed in the Republican primary.
What They Stand For
Pettersen has supported codifying abortion rights into law, citing her work to pass legislation in Colorado that enshrined those protections, according to her campaign website. She's also supported:
- Loan-forgiveness programs to address workforce shortages in fields such as education and health care,
- Emergency grants and loans for small businesses and reducing business fees to support economic recovery; and
- Issues including energy, veterans affairs and education, per her official House website.
Bennett says Congress should lower costs, according to his campaign website.
- Law enforcement,
- Strengthening American energy; and
- Improving health-care affordability and defending jobs.
