The Vote

One of the country's busiest judicial districts will soon have a new judge. Sen. John Curtis voted on June 24 to confirm John George Edward Marck as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. The Southern District of Texas handles a high volume of immigration, drug trafficking, and civil cases along the U.S.-Mexico border; Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

  • Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
  • Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No

Sen. Curtis did not break with his party on the judicial confirmation. He has missed 19 votes this Congress, and five since April.
