The Vote

One of the busiest federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) voted on June 24 to confirm John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

  • Republicans: 52 Yes, 0 No, 1 not voting
  • Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
  • Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No

Ernst voted yes, in line with her party. Ernst has served Iowa in the Senate since 2015, and she currently chairs the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She has missed 19 votes this Congress, and five since April.
