The Vote
One of the busiest federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) voted on June 24 to confirm John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

Grassley voted yes, in line with his party. He is 92 years old and has served as Iowa's Senator since 1981. He currently serves as President Pro Tempore of the Senate and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is the panel that oversees federal judicial nominations like this one. He has missed 24 votes this Congress, and 20 votes since April.
