Who's In the Race

Democrat Oliver Gilbert faces Republican Te Brown in the Nov. 3 general election for Florida's 24th Congressional District, following the announcement by U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL-24) of her retirement. Florida's 24th District is affected by the state's new congressional map for 2026.

Gilbert served on the Miami Gardens City Council from 2008 to 2012, was elected the city's mayor in 2012, and has served as a Miami-Dade County commissioner since 2020; he holds degrees from Florida A&M University and the University of Miami School of Law. He won the Democratic primary with 20,445 votes, ahead of runner-up Shevrin Jones, who received 19,034.

Brown describes herself as a real-estate developer, small-business owner, educator, and homeschooling mother who grew up in Chicago and draws on her Christian values. Brown was the only candidate who qualified for the Republican primary, so she automatically advanced to the general election.
