The Race

Patty Garcia (D-IL) is seeking to succeed retiring Rep. Jesús "Chuy" García (D-IL) in Illinois's fourth congressional district after advancing unopposed in the Democratic primary on March 17. She will face Lupe Castillo (R-IL) and independent Chris Getty in the Nov. 3 general election. Two other high-profile independent hopefuls, Byron Sigcho-Lopez and Mayra Macías, failed to qualify for the ballot after the Illinois State Board of Elections ruled they lacked enough valid petition signatures.

The district, which spans much of Chicago's West and Southwest sides and nearby suburbs, has long been one of the nation's safest Democratic congressional seats.

Ratings

The nation's leading election forecasters agree that Illinois's fourth congressional district is safely in Democratic hands. The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato's Crystal Ball all rate the race Solid Democratic, indicating broad agreement that Democrats are heavily favored to retain the seat.

Prediction Markets

Prediction markets also point to a decisive Democratic advantage. As of late June 2026, Kalshi traders gave Democrats a 96.43% chance of winning Illinois's fourth congressional district, compared with 3.57% for Republicans. At the time, the market had recorded approximately 5,845 contracts traded.

Experts vs. Markets

Professional election forecasters and prediction markets point to the same likely outcome in Illinois's fourth congressional district.

While traditional race ratings classify the district as Solid Democratic, Kalshi assigns Democrats a 96.43% probability of victory. Both forecasting methods indicate Garcia enters the general election as the clear favorite, though the presence of independent candidate Chris Getty means the race is not a strictly two-party contest.
