The Vote
One of the most important federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge, but Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) was not on board. Hirono voted against the confirmation of John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on June 24. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. He will now hold a lifetime seat on the federal bench in one of the country's busiest courts. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

- Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
- Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No
Hirono voted no, in line with her party. She has represented Hawaii in the Senate since 2013, and has missed three votes this Congress. She has missed zero votes since April.
