The Vote
One of the busiest federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge, despite the efforts of Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA). Padilla voted June 24 against the confirmation of John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The district soon to be in his charge deals with many immigration and cartel-related cases, in part due to its proximity to the Texas-Mexico border. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

- Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No
Padilla voted no, in line with his party. He has represented California in the U.S. Senate since 2021. He has missed 30 votes this Congress, but only one vote since April.
