Who's In the Race
Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA) faces Republican Gary Grossi in the Nov. 3 general election for Massachusetts' 3rd Congressional District.
Trahan was first elected in 2018 and previously served as chief of staff to former Rep. Marty Meehan. She also worked as a technology executive and co-founded a consulting firm. Grossi is a retired Army colonel who served 29 years, including in Iraq, and previously worked as a nurse at Veterans Affairs hospitals.
What They Stand For
Trahan supports affordable health care, describing it as a basic human right on her official House website. She also backs Medicare prescription drug price negotiations, limits on seniors' out-of-pocket costs, climate action and infrastructure investment.
Grossi's campaign platform emphasizes lowering energy bills, opposing regulations he says increase housing costs, and reducing health care expenses by addressing bureaucracy and malpractice costs. He also supports law enforcement, small-business development, community-based mental health services, congressional term limits and audits of departing officeholders.
The Money Behind the Race
Through Aug. 12, Trahan reported $1.64 million in total receipts and $1.77 million in cash on hand, compared with $7,121 in receipts and $5,775 in cash for Grossi, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Trahan held a fundraising advantage of approximately 230-to-1. Grossi's receipts included $4,000 in candidate loans, which remained outstanding as debt. Trahan reported no outstanding debt.
Race Outlook: Ratings and Betting Markets
Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections rated the race Solid Democratic in October. On Kalshi, Democrats had a reported 97.1% implied probability of winning as of Oct. 20.
Trahan won approximately 61% of the vote in 2022 and 73% in 2024. Democrats won all nine Massachusetts House seats in both elections. In the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris carried Massachusetts with approximately 61% of the statewide vote.
