Who's In the Race
Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) faces Republican Aurora Stuski in the November 3 general election in Pennsylvania's 4th Congressional District.
Dean has represented the district since 2019, previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018; she also practiced law in Philadelphia and taught writing and ethics at La Salle University. She ran unopposed in the May 19 Democratic primary.
Stuski is the founder and owner of AAS Appraisal Lab, a jewelry appraisal business serving Montgomery County since 1989, and has lived in West Norriton for more than 35 years, according to her campaign website. She also ran unopposed in the May 19 Republican primary.
What They Stand For
Dean has supported universal, affordable health care and making Affordable Care Act premium subsidies permanent, according to her official House website. She's also supported:
- Protecting reproductive health access and a woman's ability to make medical decisions with her doctor,
- Investment in renewable energy, green infrastructure, and international climate agreements,
- Fair wages, equal pay, and workers' right to organize, identifying as "a lifelong supporter of organized labor"; and
- Addressing addiction through treatment, recovery services, and reducing stigma around substance use disorder.
Stuski has proposed an "America First" foreign policy requiring clear objectives, oversight, and exit plans for military operations, according to her campaign website. She's also supported:
- Scrutinizing foreign aid for its national-security benefit, intended use, and results rather than providing it automatically,
- A national framework to protect adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities from losing housing or care as their parents age,
- A student-loan system with affordable repayment and greater college accountability for students' financial outcomes; and
- Stronger food safety inspections, honest labeling, and domestic food production, including infant-formula safety.
The Money Behind the Race
Through June 30, Dean had raised about $1.4 million and had about $1.2 million in cash on hand. Stuski reported no receipts, leaving Dean with a commanding financial advantage heading into November. Outside groups have spent about $105 supporting Dean, with API PA Votes the larger of the two spenders at about $95 and Sierra Club Independent Action contributing about $10.
