The Vote
One of the busiest federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge, despite the efforts of Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM). Heinrich voted on June 24 against the confirmation John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.
- Republicans: 52 Yes, 0 No, 1 not voting
- Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
- Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No
Heinrich voted no, in line with his party. He has represented New Mexico in the Senate since 2013. He has missed 34 votes this Congress, but zerp since April.
