Who's In the Race
Rep. Mike Ezell (R-MS) and Democrat Jeffrey Hulum III won their March 10 primaries for Mississippi's 4th U.S. House District and will face each other in the Nov. 3 general election. Ezell, the incumbent, won 84.1% of the Republican primary vote. Hulum won the Democratic nomination with 58.4%.
What They Stand For
Jeffrey Hulum III lists the economy, education, affordable health care, criminal justice reform, social justice, and national security among his campaign priorities.
Ezell emphasizes border security and combating fentanyl and other illegal drugs. He supports protecting unborn life and opposes taxpayer funding for abortion. Ezell also supports reducing federal power and regulations, and says military personnel and veterans should receive support during and after their service. A former sheriff and longtime law enforcement officer, Ezell emphasizes support for police. He also opposes what he describes as socialist ideology and critical theory and promotes what his campaign calls principles of faith, freedom and opportunity.
Race Outlook: Ratings and Betting Markets
The Cook Political Report rated the district "Solid Republican" in its Sept. 25 House ratings. Sabato's Crystal Ball and Inside Elections have also classified the race as Solid Republican. Prediction market Kalshi also maintains a market on which party will win the district.
Ezell first won the seat in 2022 with 73.3% of the general-election vote and was reelected in 2024 with about 74%. For broader political context, Donald Trump won Mississippi statewide in the 2024 presidential election with 60.9% of the vote.
