Who's In the Race

Rep. Michael Rulli (R-OH) faces Democrat Elizabeth Ann Kirtley in Ohio's 6th Congressional District on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Oct. 5 voter-registration deadline has passed, and early voting continues through Nov. 1.

Rulli has represented the district since 2024, following service in the Ohio Senate. He previously worked in his family's grocery business, Rulli Bros. Market. Rulli won the Republican primary with 76.7% of the vote. Kirtley, a small-business owner from New Philadelphia and first-time candidate, previously worked as a preschool teacher for Job and Family Services and as a freelance writer. No Democratic primary candidates were listed.

What They Stand For

Rulli advocates an "America First" agenda, opposing prolonged foreign wars, job offshoring, and illegal immigration. He supports stronger border security, lower taxes, reduced regulations, and protections against unfair foreign trade practices. He also advocates expanding domestic oil, natural gas, and coal production, increasing health care price transparency, lowering prescription drug costs, and reducing federal waste.

Kirtley supports universal health care and restructuring pharmaceutical and hospital systems, including limits on prescription drug prices, according to WFMJ. She advocates federal regulation of data centers, citing their resource demands, and increased investment in local farmers and small businesses.

Kirtley also supports codifying Roe v. Wade's abortion protections and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, arguing that immigration enforcement must respect due process and constitutional rights.

The Money Behind the Race

Federal Election Commission filings show Rulli reported approximately $1.11 million in receipts and $269,711 in cash on hand through June 30. Kirtley reported $1,132 in receipts and $1,069 in cash on hand during the same period.

Race Outlook: Ratings and Betting Markets

The Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball and Inside Elections rated the race Solid Republican as of Sept. 25, Sept. 29 and Oct. 2, respectively. On Kalshi, Republican contracts reflected a 94.32% implied probability as of Oct. 8, compared with 5.68% for Democrats.

Bill Johnson won approximately 68% in 2022, while Rulli won approximately 67% in 2024. Republicans won 10 of Ohio's 15 House seats in both elections. Donald Trump carried Ohio with approximately 55% in 2024.

Early voting continues through Nov. 1, with hours varying by date. Absentee-ballot applications must reach county election boards by 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Election Day polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to the Ohio secretary of state's voting schedule.
