Who's In the Race
Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK) faces Democrat Brandon Wade and an independent candidate in the Nov. 3 general election in Oklahoma's 2nd District. This is a rematch: Brecheen defeated Wade in the 2024 general election.
Brecheen has represented the district since 2023 and previously served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2018; he is a fourth-generation rancher from eastern Oklahoma. He won the Republican primary with about 79 percent of the vote over Will Webb.
Wade was raised in Copan and is based in Bartlesville, and his campaign describes him as a third-generation union worker who has spent 26 years as a leader with IUOE Local 351. He took the Democratic primary with about 74 percent of the vote over Erik Terwey.
What They Stand For
Brecheen has proposed reducing the federal deficit and cutting federal spending, according to his official House website. He's also supported:
- Tighter border security,
- Protecting life at the federal level and opposing measures advocating abortion,
- Reducing regulations on oil and gas and opposing federal subsidies for green energy; and
- Adherence to the Constitution as a legislative priority.
Wade has proposed standing with "hard-working families, public servants, veterans, and small businesses" in the district, according to his campaign website. He has also supported:
- Defending the rights of women and LGBTQ+ people; and
- Fighting to represent the best interests of Oklahoma's 2nd District.
The Money Behind the Race
Brecheen raised about $219,000 through June 30 and had about $76,000 in cash on hand, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Wade raised about $4,290 through June 30 and had about $86 in the bank, per FEC filings.
Outside spending in the race totaled just $460 as of Oct. 13, all of it supporting Brecheen; the largest spender was the Freedom Caucus Fund.
