Who's In the Race
Incumbent Republican John Joyce and Democrat Beth Farnham will face each other in Pennsylvania's 13th U.S. House District race. Both candidates ran unopposed in their May 19 primaries.
What They Stand For
Beth Farnham centers her campaign on affordability, public education, and health care. Her campaign site says every American should have excellent, affordable, and accessible health care, and she supports universal coverage. Farnham supports legally protecting reproductive freedom, stating that abortion access and other bodily-autonomy decisions should be made by individuals with their trusted medical professionals. She also supports gun-safety measures, immigration reform, and what she describes as preserving democracy and restoring a functioning Congress.
John Joyce organizes his platform around the economy, national security, and energy. He supports rolling back energy rules, lowering energy costs, and creating energy jobs in Pennsylvania. On health care, Joyce supports legislation to protect patients' access to independent providers and reduce out-of-pocket costs, while opposing federal legislation he says would expand legal challenges to preserve the Affordable Care Act.
Joyce opposes federal legislation restricting certain Second Amendment rights and supports preserving the Hyde Amendment's restriction on taxpayer-funded abortions. He also lists defending constitutional rights, supporting Pennsylvania's farmers, and creating American jobs among his priorities.
The Money Behind the Race
Outside spending in this race totals $95, all of it supporting the Democratic candidate, Beth Farnham, as of Oct. 2.
