The Vote
One of the busiest federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge, despite the efforts of Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD). Van Hollen voted June 24 against the confirmation of John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. His future district deals with many immigration and cartel-related cases, in part due to its proximity to the Texas-Mexico border. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.

- Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
- Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No
Van Hollen voted no, in line with his party. He has represented Maryland in the Senate since 2017, and has missed 13 votes this Congress. However, he has missed zero votes since April.
