Who's In the Race
Republican Harriet Hageman and Democrat James Byrd will face each other in the general election for Wyoming's U.S. Senate Class II seat on Nov. 3.
Hageman won the Republican primary on Aug. 18, taking 64.66 percent of the vote across a five-candidate field. Byrd ran unopposed in the Democratic primary the same day, capturing 78 percent of the vote. The seat is open: incumbent Sen. Cynthia M. Lummis is not running for re-election.
What They Stand For
Hageman says energy security is national security and describes Wyoming as one of the nation's most important energy states, according to Wyoming Public Media. She also supports President Trump's agenda, NBC News reported.
Byrd told Wyoming Public Media that the Senate's two most pressing problems are restoring effective government and making it function again. Byrd also supports improving access to healthcare, though the available interview excerpt does not give enough detail to state his specific proposed policy.
