About

City harvest helped start the food rescue movement in 1982 and, in fiscal year 2023, collected 79 million pounds of excess food to help FEED the nearly 1.2 million new yorkers struggling to PUT meals on their tables. Through relationships with farms, grocers, restaurants, and manufacturers, city harvest collects nutritious food that would otherwise GO to waste and delivers it, free of charge, to more than 400 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. Our programs empower individuals through nutrition education, increase our partners' capacity, and strengthen the local food system, helping new yorkers who are experiencing food insecurity to access, afford, and consume nutritious food.
