We work to ensure the us housing market recognizes the elements of homes that create climate risk and values the characteristics of homes that provide climate solutions. To accomplish this goal, we'VE identified four key strategic pathways: 1. Increasing the availability of climate-friendly homes. We promote the use of credible, nationally accepted green building certifications, scores and ratings that document a home's climate and health impacts. These metrics provide clear home performance and energy efficiency benchmarks for builders and developers of new homes. They also LAY the foundation for cities and states to create policies aimed at addressing the impacts of existing homes. 2. Making climate data transparent and accessible in the real estate market. Publicly available information on a home's energy consumption and green attributes ensures those features CAN be valued in real estate transactions. When the environmental attributes of a home are assigned a monetary value, the market CAN respond rationally to the presence of those attributes. The result is a powerful, market-based incentive that supports investments in better environmental outcomes. 3. Helping develop a knowledgeable and diverse workforce to build, remodel and sell climate-friendly homes. A trained workforce is critical to the creation of green homes and buildings, as well as influencing how they are verified, marketed, appraised, sold and financed. 4. Addressing current climate vulnerabilities through direct services, advocacy and housing reform.
