Eastern AREA health education center, INC. Is one of nine organizations which operate under contract with the university of north carolina at chapel HILL utilizing state and federal funds to conduct operations of the AREA health education center (AHEC) in eastern north carolina. Operations are conducted through affiliation agreements with hospitals and other health care organizations. The primary purpose of the AHEC organization is to provide continuing education and training to health care professionals. The organization's board of directors consists of individuals appointed by 14 eastern north carolina hospitals, EAST carolina university, and various other AREA medical/educational institutions.
