About
Girl scouts of western washington is the largest leadership organization for girls* in washington state. Our council serves girls* in 18 counties with offices in bremerton, tacoma, everett, and headquarters in seattle. In the fiscal year ending september 2024, 15,000+ girls* in grades k-12 from every county we serve participated in programming supported by 7,000+ adult volunteers. Our track record of success in working with girls* means we'RE ABLE to provide more girl scouts with access to the confidence and skill-boosting experiences that have always been a hallmark of our organization and the girl scout leadership experience: outdoor experiences at CAMP and beyond, entrepreneurship opportunities, hands-on experiences in steam, and access to GAIN the life skills to be the change-makers our world needs. Our community represents every race, ethnicity, income level, sexual orientation, ability, and religion; reflects a spectrum of gender identity; and connects across geographic locations. According to a 2012 landmark study conducted by girl scouts of the USA, the transformational power of girl scouts has significant long-term impacts on girls*, with educational achievement and average salaries significantly higher among girls* who participated in girl scouts for more than SIX years. We FEEL strongly that these positive social and emotional benefits should be easily available to ALL members of our community. Moreover, in a more recent national study, girl scout alums who are black, indigenous, and people of color reported even higher long-term results. To this END, it is a continuing goal for girl scouts of western washington to increase its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, racial justice, and belonging to ensure ALL historically-excluded youth have access to the life-changing benefits of our program. Girl scouts of western washington uses the term girl* inclusively to speak to everyone who identifies with the girl scout experience, whichincludes cisgender girls, gender-expansive youth, transgender youth, NON-binary youth, gender nonconforming youth genderqueer youth, and ANY girl-identifying human.
