To stimulate, foster and promote public interest in the arts and to educate the american people in the FINE arts. At the beginning of the 20th century, the art/literary critic of the new YORK times, charles dekay, was a prime mover in establishing a national organization to unite artists of ALL disciplines with a patron BASE and thereby advance the cultural life of the nation. People of ALL socioeconomic backgrounds were involved in the club's mission and women were invited to join on a full and equal basis, a BOLD innovation at the time. The annual programs are created and administered by member volunteers and management. Since 1905 the club has showcased its art displays in the national historic landmark former governor samuel tilden mansion.
