As the global economy developed, FEI was the driving force in forming the International Association of Financial Executives Institutes in 1969. On November 6, 2000, with a name and philosophy change, Financial Executives Institute became Financial Executives International and opened membership to financial executives from around the world. FEI proactively helped design the CFO Act, and has a history of supporting legislation that enhances the business climate. Commencing July 1, 2019, all of FEI's professional development opportunities are now presented by FERF. As a result of the combined FEI and FERF governance approved by both boards in May 2018, the financial statements are now presented on a consolidated basis.
