This bill amends the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 to include energy storage as renewable energy under the Rural Energy for America Program. (The program is administered by the Department of Agriculture and provides guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to farmers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or energy efficiency improvements.)
The bill specifies that energy storage includes electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical storage, for example, provided by battery storage, a grid-enabled water heater, or pumped hydroelectric storage.
