PFAS Monitoring Act of 2019
This bill directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to test public water systems for certain perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. These substances are man-made and may have adverse human health effects. A variety of products contain the compounds, such as nonstick cookware or weatherproof clothing.
Initially, the EPA must monitor for at least 30 PFAS. Within two years, the EPA must validate one or more test methods for monitoring the total amount of all PFAS.
