The resolution recognizes Toni Morrison as (1) one of the most formidable scholars, educators, and authors of the United States; and (2) a writer of the stature of other great literary figures of the United States, such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mark Twain, and William Faulkner.
Finally, the resolution honors the life of Toni Morrison and her achievements in the humanities and literature.
