This bill would expand and enhance federal tax credits for electric vehicles and clean energy infrastructure. It increases the clean vehicle tax credit from $3,750 to $7,500 per vehicle and raises the previously-owned clean vehicle credit from $4,000 to $8,000, while also boosting the alternative fuel refueling property tax credit from 30 percent to 50 percent of installation costs. The legislation would affect vehicle buyers and businesses investing in charging infrastructure by making clean vehicles and refueling stations more affordable. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of Commerce to report on vehicle variety and pricing trends, the Secretary of Energy to study critical minerals needed for electric and hybrid vehicles, and both secretaries to identify routes used by high-fuel-consumption vehicles and track electric charging station availability along those routes. These changes would take effect immediately upon enactment, with reporting requirements to be completed within 180 days to two years depending on the provision.
