This legislation establishes a new Deputy Secretary of State for Economic Security position to oversee U.S. economic and national security matters within the State Department. The bill restructures existing offices and positions to consolidate responsibilities for sanctions policy, trade, export controls, supply chain security, and foreign assistance under this new deputy position. It also creates new assistant secretary positions focused on strategic foreign assistance, technology and innovation security, and supply chain security, while establishing an Office of Economic Analysis and Targeting to provide data analysis and conduct research on critical supply chains and threats to U.S. economic security. The bill authorizes approximately $10 million over two years for the Deputy Secretary's office, $30 million annually for the Office of Economic Analysis and Targeting, and allows for hiring up to 10 policy-level staff and at least 15 competitive service employees to implement these changes.
