The Federal Agency Performance Act of 2024 strengthens accountability and performance tracking across federal agencies by requiring them to conduct annual reviews of progress toward their strategic goals and report findings to the public. The bill modifies existing federal performance reporting requirements to include more detailed tracking of results, requires agencies to identify risks that could prevent them from meeting their goals, and mandates strategies for improvement when goals are at risk of not being achieved. It also establishes Deputy Performance Improvement Officers at each agency to support performance oversight and updates the federal performance website to make agency progress information more accessible to the public. The legislation eliminates two outdated pilot programs and clarifies timing requirements for agency performance reports. The Government Accountability Office must submit a report to Congress within 18 months of enactment evaluating whether these changes are effective at improving federal agency performance.
