This bill increases federal criminal penalties for various crimes committed against minors in school zones and on college campuses. The legislation adds mandatory additional prison sentences of up to five years, served consecutively to existing sentences, for offenses including human trafficking, coercion and enticement of minors, distribution of obscene material to minors, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children, and transporting minors for sexual activity. The enhanced penalties apply when the victim is a student present in a school zone, within 1,000 feet of a school-sponsored activity, or on a college campus. The bill contains no new funding or implementation timeline and would take effect upon passage.
