To amend title 18, United States Code, to require the recording of communications between Secret Service agents deployed for protection of certain persons.
The Secret Service Recording Accountability Act of 2024 would require the Secret Service to record all communications between agents protecting individuals entitled to Secret Service protection. Recordings would normally be deleted after 90 days, but if requested by Congress, they must be retained for at least 18 months. In cases where someone attempts to harm or actually harms a protected person, these recordings would be made available to four congressional committees: the Appropriations committees, Judiciary committees, House Oversight and Accountability Committee, and Homeland Security committees. The bill amends federal law governing Secret Service authority and creates a system designed to improve accountability and oversight of Secret Service protective operations.
