The SEARCH Act of 2024 directs the Department of Health and Human Services to launch public awareness campaigns aimed at increasing women's participation in clinical trials supported by the National Institutes of Health, with a particular focus on research related to rare diseases. The bill also requires a separate awareness campaign specifically addressing bleeding and clotting disorders in women. Additionally, the legislation establishes a permanent Interagency Task Force on Advancing Treatments for Rare Diseases, to be created within 90 days, composed of federal health officials, biopharmaceutical innovators, health plan administrators, and rare disease advocacy group representatives. The task force will assess federal efforts and funding related to rare disease research while coordinating initiatives that focus on conditions disproportionately affecting women. The bill authorizes $10 million annually for each fiscal year from 2025 through 2029 to fund both awareness campaigns, and requires the Health and Human Services Department to submit a coordinated action plan to Congress within 180 days of enactment.
