This bill creates a federal grant program to help schools encourage girls and underrepresented minorities to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Local school districts that serve low-income student populations would compete for four-year grants of $250,000 per year to fund various STEM activities, including tutoring, mentoring, summer programs, field trips, teacher professional development, and internships. The legislation authorizes $10 million annually from fiscal year 2025 through 2028 to support these grants. Eligible school districts must receive federal Title I funding and serve at least 40 percent of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Grant recipients must submit annual evaluations measuring student academic progress and engagement in STEM activities while ensuring the grant money supplements rather than replaces existing education funding.
