This bill creates a federal interagency task force to help unaccompanied homeless youth obtain vital documents like birth certificates and social security cards. The task force will be led jointly by the Social Security Administration and the Secretaries of Housing and Urban Development and Health and Human Services, and will include state officials and nonprofit representatives with lived experience of youth homelessness. The task force will meet quarterly to share best practices, collect data on what policies work, and develop recommendations to remove barriers these youth face in accessing government benefits and services. Within one year, the task force must report to Congress on challenges these youth face and recommendations for legislative and administrative changes, and within three years it will submit a final report assessing the effectiveness of implemented changes before the task force terminates. The bill does not specify dedicated funding but requires the task force to coordinate existing resources across federal agencies.
