This joint resolution would disapprove and block a rule issued by the Departments of Labor, Treasury, and Health and Human Services in April 2024 that expanded short-term health insurance plans and independent health benefits coverage. Short-term plans are temporary insurance policies that typically last less than a year and are not required to follow the same consumer protections as comprehensive health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. The resolution, submitted by seven Republican representatives, uses the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to overturn federal regulations with a simple majority vote. If passed, the rule would be voided and the agencies would be prohibited from issuing substantially similar regulations in the future. The resolution was referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Education and the Workforce, and Ways and Means for consideration.
