Next Generation 9-1-1 Act of 2023
This bill establishes grants and requires other activities to support next generation 9-1-1 systems (interoperable, secure, Internet Protocol-based systems for receiving 9-1-1 requests for emergency assistance).
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) must award grants to state, tribal, and territorial governments (or entities established by one or more of those governments) for implementing and maintaining next generation 9-1-1 systems. Grant-funded activities include training related to implementing and maintaining the systems, public outreach about the capabilities of the systems, and adopting cybersecurity measures to protect the systems.
Additionally, the NTIA must (1) establish an advisory board to provide recommendations on the grant program and other aspects of implementing the systems, and (2) disseminate information about the best practices and technology for implementing the systems.
The bill also requires the NTIA to establish a center to share information about cybersecurity threats to the systems with state, local, and regional governments.
