This bill ensures that employees and contractors at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continue to receive paychecks and benefits during a government shutdown. Specifically, it provides automatic funding for border agents, immigration enforcement officers, and supporting contractors who are designated as essential workers, covering their salaries and benefits such as disability compensation, death benefits, and funeral expenses. The legislation applies to key border security divisions including the Border Patrol, Office of Field Operations, Air and Marine Operations, Homeland Security Investigations, and Enforcement and Removal Operations. Once Congress passes a regular budget or continuing appropriation measure for the Department of Homeland Security, the emergency funding provided under this bill ends and expenses are charged to the normal appropriations.
