This bill would repeal multiple gun control measures enacted during the previous Congress and eliminate funding for various firearm-related restrictions and safety programs. Specifically, it would rescind approximately $141 million from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives budget, repeal provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act related to background checks and firearm restrictions, and eliminate federal funding for gun violence prevention initiatives, firearm storage programs, and research treating gun violence as a public health issue. The legislation would also prevent federal agencies including the Veterans Affairs Department, Department of Education, and Department of Health and Human Services from implementing programs related to firearm storage, safety, or restrictions. Additionally, it would prohibit federal funds from being used to investigate citizens based on gun rights advocacy or patriotic beliefs and would remove names added to the background check system since June 2022 under certain domestic violence provisions.
