It also directs the President to identify and sanction, within 180 days, any Chinese individuals, companies, or Communist Party members who meet existing criteria for Iran-related sanctions, though the President can waive these sanctions for national security reasons with congressional notice. Additionally, the bill calls for a separate report assessing how current sanctions affect Iran's economy, its human rights record, its support for terrorist groups, and ordinary Iranian citizens' living standards. The legislation includes exceptions for humanitarian aid, law enforcement, and intelligence activities, and would primarily affect Chinese companies and officials involved in the Iranian oil trade, as well as U.S. agencies responsible for sanctions enforcement and diplomacy.
