The bill allocates $50 million in fiscal year 2024 specifically to provide housing, food, and other supportive services to these reserve-component families. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Defense to study food and housing insecurity among active reserve members and submit findings to Congress annually beginning one year after the bill's enactment. The changes aim to address gaps in support for part-time military service members and their families who may struggle with homelessness and food insecurity but have historically fallen outside existing veteran assistance programs.
