Under current law, these requests can take months to get approved or denied. The bill sets a firm 60-day deadline for approval or denial, with automatic approval if governments miss the deadline. It limits what information governments can require applicants to submit, restricting them to documents reasonably needed to determine eligibility and only those listed in publicly available rules. The bill also adds new eligible modifications that improve public safety and emergency resilience, such as adding backup power or hardening structures against damage. The Federal Communications Commission must issue final implementation rules within 180 days of the bill's enactment, and the new requirements apply to all requests submitted after the law takes effect.
