This bill establishes a temporary advisory committee to study and recommend solutions for transmitting location information with calls to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Federal Communications Commission and the Secretary of Health and Human Services will jointly appoint 14 committee members representing telecommunications companies, handset manufacturers, emergency services, the 988 Lifeline, mental health organizations, and state and local governments. The committee must complete its work within one year of the bill's enactment, studying privacy concerns, technical standards, and funding requirements before submitting recommendations to Congress and the FCC. The committee will terminate 30 days after submitting its final report. The legislation requires no new federal funding, as the committee will operate using existing appropriated resources.
