This bill amends the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act to expand and extend benefits for uranium miners and workers who were exposed to radiation. The legislation broadens eligibility to include workers in uranium mines and mills across all states (not just previously covered states), ore transporters, and core drillers who worked between 1942 and 1978 and developed lung cancer, kidney disease, or certain respiratory illnesses. The bill provides $475 million in funding by redirecting unspent coronavirus relief money to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Trust Fund, and extends the deadline for filing claims by four years from the bill's enactment. This change allows more affected workers and their families to seek compensation for health problems resulting from occupational radiation exposure during the early nuclear era.
