The Youth Mental Health Data Act of 2023 establishes a federal task force to improve how the government collects and shares information about youth mental health. The task force, led by the Assistant Secretary for Health, will include representatives from major federal agencies like the CDC, NIH, Department of Education, and Department of Justice, along with non-federal members including mental health experts, nonprofits, young people with lived mental health experience, and media companies. The task force will develop a national strategy to integrate mental health data across government and health systems, tracking trends by location, age, race, ethnicity, and other factors while protecting privacy, and will examine how technology and social media affect youth mental health. The task force must meet at least four times yearly and submit an initial national strategy to Congress within one year of its first meeting, followed by annual updates, and will operate for five years before automatically ending.
