The Farm and Food Cybersecurity Act of 2024 directs the Secretary of Agriculture to assess cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities in the agriculture and food sector every two years and report findings to Congress, with the first report due within one year of enactment. The bill also requires the Agriculture Department to coordinate with Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and other agencies to conduct annual simulation exercises over a five-year period that test how federal, state, local, tribal, and private sector entities respond to food-related emergencies or cyberattacks. These exercises will involve realistic scenarios and input from experts in agriculture, cybersecurity, public health, emergency management, and other relevant fields to identify gaps in food supply chain security and develop best practices. The legislation affects farmers, food processors, distributors, retailers, and government agencies responsible for food security. The bill authorizes $1 million per year from 2024 through 2028 to fund these simulation exercises and related activities.
