The Accessibility and Inclusion to Diversify Local Government Leadership Act establishes a federal grant program to help small and rural local governments pay for workplace accommodations that enable elected and appointed officials with disabilities to perform their jobs. Eligible jurisdictions include rural areas, towns with populations under 10,000, or communities with 10,000 to 200,000 residents that have poverty rates of 18 percent or higher. Grants would range from $3,000 to $50,000 per year and could fund physical office modifications, assistive technology, sign language interpreters, transportation for work events, and other accessibility supports. The bill requires grant recipients to contribute matching funds equal to 25 percent of the grant amount and to maintain a dedicated account for disability accommodations for at least four years after the grant period ends. The legislation authorizes $5 million annually in funding for fiscal years 2025 through 2031 and requires the Secretary of Labor to submit yearly reports tracking the program's impact and demographics of supported officials.
