This bill extends and expands the Department of Veterans Affairs transportation grant program, which helps veterans access healthcare services. The legislation modifies the program to include tribal organizations and Native Hawaiian organizations as eligible recipients of transportation grants, in addition to the existing state and local veterans service agencies. The bill removes the previous funding cap of three million dollars per year and instead authorizes whatever funds are necessary annually from fiscal years 2024 through 2028, giving the VA greater flexibility to support rural veterans' transportation needs. This change particularly benefits Native American and Native Hawaiian veterans who may face geographic barriers to healthcare. The bill was introduced in February 2024 and referred to the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
