Specifically, the bill raises the maximum benefit for certain alterations from $6,800 to $10,000 and raises another category from $2,000 to $10,000, helping veterans make their homes more accessible and safer. The increased amounts would take effect immediately upon enactment for veterans who apply going forward, though veterans who already exhausted their benefits before the law passes would not receive additional funds. The bill also requires the VA to automatically adjust these dollar amounts annually based on inflation to ensure the benefits keep pace with rising costs. The legislation was introduced in June 2023 and referred to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
